Megan Tillmann, Soprano

“…Megan Tillmann played and sang Flora to near perfection…”

                                                                              - Opera News

Described as a performer with “fresh tone and easy acting skills” (Opera News), Soprano Megan Tillmann is a name to watch.  Her award winning singing and critical acclaim have brought her national attention.  District Winner of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions and winner of the Opera/Columbus Competition, Ms. Tillmann has sung with national companies including Cleveland Opera, Skylight Opera, Opera Omaha, Des Moines Metro Opera, Mississippi Opera, and Lyric Opera Cleveland.

In 2006, Ms. Tillmann sang alongside her husband, Matthew DiBattista, in a Valentine’s Concert of Handel and American Songbook love duets with the Boston Classical Orchestra.  Other recent roles include Laurie Moss in Opera Omaha’s production of The Tender Land, Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi at Skylight Opera, and Peep Bo in Mississippi Opera’s The Mikado.

In the 2003-2004 season, Ms. Tillmann took part in two exciting world premiere projects.  She performed the role of The Child, alongside baritone Sanford Sylvan, in Come to Me in Dreams with music by Lori Laitman at Cleveland Opera. Under the direction of Francesca Zambello, “the charismatic Megan Tillmann [made] a memorably vulnerable rose” (Shepherd Express) in Skylight Opera’s production of The Little Prince.  She also performed the role of the Erste Knabe in Die Zauberflöte at Cleveland Opera under the baton of Maestro Anton Coppola.

Other recent performances include Laurie Moss in The Tender Land at Skylight Opera about which the Shepherd Express said, “As the farm girl Laurie, soprano Megan Tillmann gives a refreshingly sincere performance, with some of the clearest, most expressive American diction you’ll ever hear.  Her high, light voice has an attractive, reedy middle range that strongly resembles the young Barbara Cook.  Unlike most opera singers, Tillmann shifts no gears when she launches into singing, it’s as natural to her as speaking”.  This live production was broadcast on Milwaukee PBS.  As Flora in The Turn of the Screw at Skylight Opera, Opera News said, “…the adult soprano, Megan Tillmann, played and sang Flora to near perfection….”  Additional appearances include Alexandra
in Regina with Lyric Opera Cleveland as well as Sister Genevieve and the Soprano Lover in Puccini’s Il Trittico with Des Moines Metro Opera.

Equally at home on the concert and recital stage, Ms. Tillmann has performed with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra; Boston’s Overture Productions and presented a Noel Coward recital for The Cleveland Art Song Festival.  She was a frequent recitalist and soloist for both Cleveland Opera and Lyric Opera Cleveland and sang selections from Candide at Milwaukee’s Marcus Center for a September 11th Benefit Concert.
